Hi, my name is Finlay. I am a year 10 student who spent my week of work experience here at LamasaTech and I have really enjoyed it.
I chose LamasaTech as the place where I would work because they’re an interesting and unique company that caught my eye and immediately intrigued me. Another reason I have chosen to do my work experience here was because of my interest in tech. I am constantly using technology and I feel as though the future will heavily depend on new and beneficial products like what is currently being sold here today.
I had set myself a few goals before I started. I wanted to show interest in everything I have been shown which I feel as though I have achieved so far as everything I have been introduced to has been quite intriguing. Although I haven’t understood everything I’ve been told I have at least made the effort to listen. Another goal I had set myself was to be polite at all times and to follow all instructions to the best of my abilities. I have been set a few tasks so far some being harder than others and I have attempted to do all these.
Overall, I think I have achieved my goals and I am very happy with what I have done this week.
Monday
I started off the day quite confident in my self and not that nervous. I was introduced with a warm greeting by everyone there which made me feel welcomed just as I had wanted my first day to start off. After I had been shown around, I was told to do my first task. This task was to fill in a form about medical and safety information, not the most interesting task but it needed to be done. After that I was shown a PowerPoint by Louis about the company which briefly introduced me to the sort of products they sell and how they go about things.
Tuesday
On Tuesday I was asked to find five food ordering apps by Michael that would work on their food ordering kiosk which I would later go on to test out these apps to see if they had any problems or difficulties. I recorded these findings on a table and had it explained to me why these problems were occurring. I was also shown a few other products they sell, and I was able to use these to see what they did which was very interesting.
Wednesday
Wednesday was a very trial and error-based day as I was asked to look for any errors in their website and their registration kiosk. I had listed a few improvements for both which I thought could have been made. Additionally, I was told to make some fake logins for the registration kiosk in preparation of a video demonstration which would conducted later on in the day by Louis for a customer who was interested in buying the product. I was also asked to write the blog I am writing now.
Thursday
Today I started writing up this blog up until this point. I also looked at a few product specifications to get an idea of what they look like and how to produce them. From this I gained a lot of knowledge of the marketing side of the business, how to make products look appealing and how to present important information that the customer may be interested in when buying something.
Friday
On the last day I helped out with a few things. I wrote two specification sheets on two of their products in PowerPoint each following the same style as the other ones which had already completed. I felt as though I did quite well and met the task I was set. Finally the last task of the week I was asked to give an honest opinion on their products. I gave mostly positive feedback but there were a few things which I thought could have been improved. I hope I helped and gave them an opinion from a non-biased person. The last thing I did was say my goodbyes and wished them well in the future, and that was my work experience at LamasaTech.
My favourite part was when I got to use some of the technology that they supply to their customers. This was my favourite part because I liked seeing how things you see everyday like food kiosks actually worked and how complex some things are, like the transparent screen box. During my week I have learned numerous things. One thing in particular was soak testing. Soak testing is the process in which tech related products have to go through before they can be sent off.
I hope this week of work experience will help me in the future if I am looking for a job similar to this and I wish the company all the best in the future.
