Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is a student-centered public research university committed to providing life-changing academic experiences. The university is ranked a top national university by the U.S. News and World Report.
LamasaTech received an invite to tender when FAU began searching for a powerful video wall solution for the new FPL Center for Intelligent Energy Technologies (InETech), housed at the university’s Boca Raton campus.
The Center
Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (COECS) and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) have partnered to create the center, to advance cutting-edge research in smart technologies, develop energy sector products and boost workforce development in the energy sector.
The FPL InETech Center is enabled by a $1M gift from NextEra Energy Foundation, FPL’s charitable arm.
Solution
LamasaTech provided our extreme narrow bezel 55″ LCD video walls, a total of 18 panels in a 6 x 3 configuration. The video wall provides an immersive viewing experience with lifelike colours and HD resolution, and the tiny 0.44mm bezel between the displays gives a near-seamless image.
The high-tech video wall is controlled using our advanced video wall processor, where the professor can easily manage what content is shown, selecting from pre-configured layouts or simply dragging and dropping inputs onto different panels or areas of the wall.
Results
The video wall screens replicate FPL’s control centre for the smart grid – a complex power generation, transmission and distribution network.
The FPL InETech Center will provide students with real-life learning experiences with state-of-the-art technology that they will potentially use once in their careers.
The team at FAU believe that the video wall solution at the center will help the university to recruit the brightest students, attract great professors from across the nation and create amazing career opportunities for graduates.
